Winona Ryder professional Winona Ryder, was born in Winona Minnesota. The name of her parents was derived from the town she grew up in. Michel Horowitz was her father and Cynthia Palmer, his mother, were both authors and editors. Ryder's father is from a Jewish family. Ryder considers herself Jewish. Ryder has two half-siblings younger than her, Jubal and Sunyata. When Ryder was just seven, her family moved into Mendocino County California. There they didn't have electricity. There was no television books were Ryder's only distraction to spend the time and she began to read extensively. Ryder at the age of 12 was enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. In the year she turned 15, Ryder was offered a part in Lucas, her first major film. Ryder was a victim of bullying in high school. Ryder had hoped that her profession acting as a professional would be a positive change. It didn't come to pass. However, she remained committed to her dream. She got her break with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in the year 1988. Ryder kept playing successful roles in a variety of films. Ryder was nominated twice for Academy Awards one for her performance on The Age of Innocence (1993).
